Reading the audio…
Want these words on the video itself? Subtitled for iPhone puts animated, word-by-word captions on Reels, TikTok and Stories — timed to the voice, in 18 fonts.

-
Pick the file
Choose a video or a voice recording from your computer or phone. Your browser pulls the sound out of the video first, so only the audio is uploaded — a 500 MB clip becomes a few megabytes.
-
Wait for the transcript
Speech recognition runs on Whisper, the model behind most transcription services. It figures out the language on its own; a 10-minute video usually takes well under a minute.
-
Copy or download
Copy the text, or download it: TXT for a plain transcript, SRT for subtitles in YouTube, Premiere, CapCut or VLC, VTT for subtitles on a web player.
Which languages work?
Around a hundred, detected automatically — English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic, Hindi, Turkish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, the Scandinavian languages and many more. Accuracy is best on clear speech without loud music; heavy background noise or several people talking at once lowers it.
SRT, VTT or TXT — which one do I need?
SRT is the subtitle format almost every editor and platform accepts: numbered lines with a start and end time each. VTT (WebVTT) is the same idea for websites and HTML5 video players. TXT is just the words, for notes, quotes, show notes or an article draft. If subtitles are what you're after, Video to SRT shows the timed lines straight away.
What happens to my file?
The audio goes to our server only to be transcribed, and is deleted as soon as the text is ready. Transcription is done by Groq (or OpenAI if Groq is down), who don't train on it. The video itself never leaves your device unless your browser can't read its sound, in which case the file is uploaded and deleted the same way. Details are in the privacy policy.
Captions on vertical video
A transcript is the first half of subtitles. If the video is for Reels, TikTok, Shorts or Stories, the Subtitled app does both halves on your iPhone: it writes the captions and burns them into the video in a style you pick. See how to add subtitles to a video on iPhone.
