Reading the audio…
Need the subtitles burned into a vertical video? Subtitled for iPhone writes them and puts them on the picture — animated, word by word, in 18 fonts.
Get Subtitled for iPhoneHow to make an SRT file from a video
-
Upload the video
Your browser takes only the sound track out of the video and uploads that, so a large file doesn't mean a long upload.
-
Check the lines
The speech is transcribed and split into short subtitle lines, each with a start and end time. Read them over — names and brand words are the usual slips.
-
Download SRT (or VTT)
The file is named after your video. Open it in any text editor if you want to fix a word; the timing stays intact.
What an SRT file looks like
Plain text: a line number, the time range in hours:minutes:seconds, milliseconds, the
words, and an empty line before the next one.

Hello, and welcome back.

00:00:02,500 --> 00:00:04,000
Today we're making subtitles. Where to use it
YouTube: in YouTube Studio open the video, go to Subtitles, add a language and upload the file "with timing". Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut and most editors import SRT as a caption track. VLC and other players load it from the subtitle menu, or automatically when it has the same name as the video. VTT is the version for HTML5 video on a website.
SRT vs burned-in subtitles
An SRT file is a separate track: viewers can switch it off and platforms can index it, but it looks the same plain way everywhere. Instagram Stories, Reels and TikTok don't take SRT uploads at all — for those the captions have to be part of the picture. That's what the Subtitled app does on iPhone; see how to burn subtitles into a video.
Is the video kept?
No. Only the audio is uploaded, transcribed by Groq (or OpenAI if Groq is down), and deleted as soon as the subtitles are ready. More in the privacy policy.
